Georgia Orienteering Club will be holding an open public meet which will be held at the Bert Adams Scout Camp. This is a GAOC club meet and not a BSA or AAC event. However the meet will be conducted to encourage Scouts to attend and complete orienteering advancement and merit badge requirements. Please note that this is not an orienteering advancement or merit badge clinic. Several GAOC members who are familiar with BSA advancement and merit badge requirements will be available to assist scouts with instruction and sign-off as time permits. Scoutmasters should take responsibility for these BSA activities and use GAOC scouters as a resource.
Entry and novice (white and yellow) courses will fulfill 1st Class and merit badge course requirements.
Instruction for all attendees will be available around 10:30am, with the official meet start time at 11:00am. Participants may start any time between 11:00am and 1:00pm and must be back at the registration area to sign in by 3:00 pm. Meet registration will be at Arnold Pavilion.
Cost is $10/start; a start can be multiple scouts going together in a buddy system (but only 1 map will be provided to share). Also, a $3 e-punch rental is required for each start. Final registration and payment can be done on-site (with important limitations on signing liability waivers for youth (see next section).
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in any GAOC event, ALL youths under the age of 18 MUST present a Waiver of Responsibility that has been signed by their own Parent or Legal Guardian. It is NOT sufficient that the Waiver of Responsibility be signed by any other adult such as a scout leader, coach, teacher or chaperone. Please access the web site noted below and complete the waiver for ALL participants. Scout leaders should have parents log into the GAOC web site at: http://www.gaorienteering.org and register their son or daughter (under 18 years of age). YOUTH ARRIVING WITHOUT ONLINE REGISTRATION BY THEIR PARENT OR GUARDIAN (or having that parent onsite to sign a waiver) WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE. At this web site, parents will be able to sign their child as an "associate member" in order to sign the waver without paying a club membership fee.
